Replication of the results of Life Fluvial by the Council of Ribadeo

The Council has begun the environmental recovery of the bird lookout over the estuary, which is located in Reme in the parish of Ove. The mayor, Fernando Suárez Barcia, indicated that it is almost 20 years old and has deteriorated over time. The investment amounts to 24,200 euros.

The Council of Ribadeo, as a partner of the Life Fluvial project, is going to replicate the techniques and methods used by TRAGSA in the conservation action C1, developed on the land previously acquired by the Council for the project. These actions, whose technical direction is the responsibility of IBADER of the University of Santiago de Compostela and INDUROT of the University of Oviedo, are aimed at eliminating invasive exotic species for the restoration of the natural habitats of the fluvial-estuarine corridor of the Ribadeo estuary. The councillor, Suárez Barcia said that “in recent years the council has been promoting a series of actions aimed at the environmental recovery and enhancement of the Ribadeo estuary. Currently, as partners in the Life Fluvial project, where we are fortunate to work with entities of the stature of the Universities of Oviedo, Santiago de Compostela and Lisbon, among others, we are continuing with the replacement of invasive species such as eucalyptus by other native species, typical of our habitat, on the Galician side of the Ribadeo estuary”.
